Mike, you have drunk the kool-aid (a different flavor than mine, anyway)

You need to read "The Creature from Jeckyll Island", the definitive hx of the Fed. The fed was created by bankers, mostly international, to gain a banking monoploy. That it was to dampen the business cycle and moderate banking crises was a well planned ruse. The fed has totally failed in their (official) mission to stabilize the economy, reign in inflation, and prevent currency crises. They have completely succeded in their real mission to enrich bankers, at the expense of taxpayers.

"But even more important, why get rid of the central bank?"... is it really a Central Bank?

"Considering the financial turmoil that we experienced after the Second Bank of the United States’ charter expired, who really wants to live through that again? That seems like a game of financial Russian roulette.".... Was that really worse than the turmoil we've lived through under the Fed?

Thanks for responding. I'm glad you had the choice between union and non-union jobs. Particularly if you felt like the working conditions of you previous job were unacceptable.

I believe that it is important to view policy decisions made today in a larger historical context, otherwise we can't use the wisdom of the past to improve the present day. The situations that I included in my post reflect a lack of respect for workers on the part of employers, and there is no reason to think that tomorrow will be any different. So I must disagree with you that looking to the past is ridiculous.

Finally, I ask you: if owners are allowed to freely associate and negotiate as one entity named "management", then why shouldn't workers be allowed to do the same? You call yourself a Tea Partier, does that mean that you are opposed to oppression? Doesn't the ability of workers to organize and collectively bargain help balance power and prevent oppression?

This is a response to all your union posts. I worked for 5 years as a nurse for at a mandatory union membership, city job. It was the worst job I ever had, the only thing good about it was that it had such cheap health insurance. My private job I was paying 100 dollars per week for family and this job was 16 dollars per week. I was a good employee and had accumulated much sick time. My last day, people were shocked that I bothered to show up. I however, had a work ethic and thought that was normal to show up for my job. The patients were wonderful but the staff morale sank to the lowest common denominator. It is an incidious mindset of the least shall push down the best. The work conditions were horrible as most people were more concerned with your work than their own, a sick, sick, mindset. As a single mother of 3 who has never taken a dime from the government, I now pay 175 per week for family health insurance. I am so happy to be away from that sick mindset. The problem now is I am taxed more to pay for other people to have better, more inexpensive insurance than myself. I happily work 60 hours per week to support my kids, however I resent being taxed at a sickening rate so that other's can work 30 hours per week with better insurance and better pension. I never want to work for a union again, as the level of work sinks to the lowest common denominator. This is not rocket science and it is crazy to us tea partiers that the left does not get it. We happily work harder so we don't have to support Democratic candidates. Some of us believe that abortion is morally wrong. Someday, I may be your nurse and you would be happy to have me, but if you knew my beliefs you would hate me. I however do not hate you, I feel sorry for you, because you don't understand that wealth is not created by unions, it is created by free enterprise. PS When you state working conditions from 100 years ago as the reason to keep unions, then you are just being ridiculous.
